Title: New Revelations: Second Sight Book #2
Author: Heather Topham Wood
Date Published: 10/9/12

Life should’ve been perfect. Kate Edwards had won the heart of police detective Jared Corbett and was coming to terms with her psychic ability. Things were blissful—until the day she met Declan Brayden.

Declan also has psychic visions and wants to work alongside Kate. Kate doesn’t trust the damaged and arrogant seer, but she knows combining their abilities would allow her to help more people. This becomes vital when visions of a missing fitness instructor turn into a race against time to save the girl’s life.

How to Meet Deadlines and Remain Sane

I work as both a novelist and freelance article writer. This means twice the number of deadlines I have to meet. I’m also a mother to two very wild boys under the age of five. When I look at my schedule some days, my first instinct is to crawl under the covers and hide. However, with some good organization, you can get deadlines met and not lose your mind.

Tune It All Out
I have a hard time focusing on my work when I’m logged onto a computer. In the middle of working, I’ll stop to check my email, Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads accounts. You’re not going to miss much if you don’t look at your social networks every ten minutes! Try to keep your internet browser closed when you’re working and create set times to check it. You’ll find you’re much more efficient and meet deadlines without cutting it down to the wire.

Prioritize
One of my most annoying qualities is that I’m a “yes” person. I have a hard time turning down projects or telling someone I’m unable to help them out. If you have a deadline, the work needs to be your top priority. Spreading yourself too thin will only make you crazy and affect the quality of your writing.

Get Unstuck
When you’re hung up on a scene of your book, it can bring everything to a scratching halt. Instead of trying to work out the scene, skip it. Writing additional scenes may help you work out the plot and dialogue naturally. If you’re looking for inspiration, consider going back and re-reading parts of your manuscript. It may spark an idea or help you recapture the character’s voice.

Ask for Help
If you have other commitments, don’t be afraid to ask for help as you try to reach that deadline. For instance, having your mother come over for a few hours to watch your kids while you work can make a huge difference.

If you absolutely can’t meet that deadline, talk to your editor. See if something can be worked out. Life is crazy and things come up. Be honest and give a reasonable timeframe on when you can have the work to them.

Review
(Thank you to the Author for providing a Review Copy!)

I have been waiting for a while for New Revelations and was just so glad to have read it! There are definitely new twists in the second book of the Second Sight Series. If you have not read Book 1, I definitely think you should, because basically this story starts off a few weeks after where we left off in Book 1 so there might be some spoilers...

I believe New Revelations is a wonderful second book in the Second Sight Series. I was brought back to familiar characters including Kate Edwards. I really liked her from the first book, and here, I definitely felt there was a little bit of character development that really showed me that she's maturing in a role of helping people, just really caring about those that she has not met, and she does this with her psychic gift, which she obtained about two years prior, when she woke up from a coma.

I was also really happy that she and Jared were finally in a relationship, but...yes there's a but, because there's a new character in this series and that's Declan. He's also a psychic and really wants to get to know Kate and perhaps work together on future cases. She's reluctant at first, but she gives in, and realizes that she really needs a friend, someone like her with psychic abilities, around her, and I truly believe that Declan and she are good together with of course minor bumps along their friendship, but I actually started to like him myself. You read a little bit of his past, how he got his own psychic abilities, oh and yeah he's a little player too, but there's some good qualities about him, and towards the end, I was actually thinking that maybe he and Kate would be a couple, even though Jared is just a wonderful, well written character. So... I was just reading along, to see how it goes, and by the end, I was ok a little shocked about what happens, but...I look forward to reading the next book, because I was definitely left with questions and just an eagerness to read what happens next!

Apart from relationships, this was also just a thrilling story to read as there are two major cases that Kate deals with and they are just so heartbreaking, but again written so well, that they seem so realistic. One case is at the beginning of the story; the other in the middle to the end. Again, I feel Kate has a bit of a stronger role, as in ways, she is really serious about how she can help two characters that are missing, one from each case, and there's definitely some mystery as we read clues from Kate's dreams/nightmares or visions that Declan has helped her to receive, so I just think it all made an intriguing read, along with the relationship/drama stuff :)

Lastly, I just want to say that I really was intrigued on how New Revelations opened, as there's a vision played out, and I was actually anticipating that scene, but you just may be surprised, like I was, on where you read that scene again. I think that was pretty cool and for me, I already can't wait for Book 3! :)

My Rating: 4.3/5
I say in between PG-13 & Rated R (Some Mature Content)
