Title: Seeds Of Discovery
Author: Breeana Puttroff
Publisher: Musefish Independent Press
Genre: YA Fantasy
Nobody at Bristlecone High School has ever paid attention to William Rose. Since the day he arrived in the small, mountain town years ago, he's blended into the background.
Quinn Robbins never noticed William at all, until the icy Friday night he suddenly appeared directly in the path of her car, and just as suddenly vanished. After that, she found herself noticing him constantly, seeing for the first time just how different he was.
First were the books he always had his nose buried in. Why would a senior in high school always be reading medical journals? Then there were his habitual appearances down by the river every Friday night, just like the night she almost hit him - not to mention his odd habit of disappearing there, with no place and no reason to hide!
Overtaken by a sense of curiosity that she just can't seem to shake, Quinn finds herself trying to figure out exactly what is going on with him. When he starts to show up in her dreams, she can't decide if her curiosity has become too much of an obsession ... or if there is something ... more.
Finally it becomes clear that the answers she seeks might only come from finding out what is happening at the river. But on the night Quinn decides to follow him, her very new mystery draws her fatefully to a very old mystery. To a discovery she thought could only exist in a fairy tale.
Uh oh, Quinn. 1st Period History will never be the same!

My Review: The Blurb sets off an intriguing type feeling; I felt it, and was very excited to dive into this story. The characters were all developed nicely. There's Quinn who is incredibly smart, may have a chance of having a date with Zander (they have known each other since they were little but have really started to get to know one another again) and then there's William who is seen as an outcast in their small Colorado town, as he really keeps to himself; always interested in books, than anything else like going on a ski trip like other kids his age. Quinn becomes more aware of William more than ever when she almost hits him on the road with her car. After that near accident, she keeps a watchful eye on him, and wonders where he disappears to every Friday afternoon, and returns on Sundays. One day, she successfully follows him, and what she thought was a broken bridge does not seem to be broken as she walks to a gate, a gate that shows her a magical place that William is all too familiar with.
This story is told very well. The writing has a great flow to it. The descriptions of locations, settings were well described; it made me feel as if I was with the characters, especially when Quinn is at Rosewood Castle (the place after Quinn goes through the gate). The concept of two different worlds was interesting, and I was intrigued in this other world that Puttroff describes. This is the first book of three, so I do look forward toward those two, as this one left me interested to want to know what happens next. Very good novel! :)
