Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there.

What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect something powerful and ancient to awaken in her and that strange whispers would urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, there’s suddenly a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them.

Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly-epic coming of age.

Quotes
*Here, I'm sharing some intriguing Quotes I found in Valkyrie Rising, and once you read the novel, you might recognize these 1-2 liners, so enjoy :) *

"His smile curled up at one corner, proof positive he was up to no good."

"There was something unnatural about his lingering, vacant stare; it sent a glacier of ice-cold fear sliding down my spine."

"After All, there was no quieter place in the world than Norway. Nothing ever happened there."

"For now, I was Ellie Overholt, an American girl in Norway, and I'd finally get to do things my way. Even if I wasn't sure exactly what that was quite yet."

"I had to bite my cheek hard not to smile right back at him as I prepared to fire the winning shot."

"Life with Tuck was a never-ending chess match - you had to plan ahead at least ten moves or you'd be toast."

"This is strictly business, Ells," he said with a wink as one hand released the railing and found its way up my back. "Try not to enjoy it so much."

"It might have been just wishful thinking - but I thought I felt something brush my lips ever so lightly before sleep pulled me under for good. "

"The thrill that looped through me at his touch was all I needed to remind me of my life at home. The life I wasn't quite ready to give up."

Review
This was a really good story! I enjoyed the storyline, and especially liked the character, Ellie. We read from her POV and it was fun and interesting to read her journey, her words, from being a normal girl, or her popular older brother's shadow, to being something, someone, that she never anticipated, never dreamed of being. This discovery happens at her Grandmother's town in Norway during the summer, and oh boy, what a summer it turns out to be for Ellie, her brother Graham, and his best friend, Tuck. Now, we get a sense of how Ellie feels towards her big brother, of his protectiveness towards her, and treating her like a child at times, and I do like how she stands up for herself at one point, and it was pretty great. Then there's Tucker (Tuck) and he and Ellie have known each other forever, since he's Graham's best friend and neighbor, so over the years Ellie has had to tolerate his presence, but could there be something more between these two? And there might be a secret that Tuck has withhold this whole time, and believe me, it's a shocking one, something I definitely did not see coming! This story has got great elements including a sweet romance, Valkyries, Action, Fantasy, great written characters and much much more, so hope you read it! :)

My Rating: 4/5
Rated PG-13

She has always loved books and writing short stories, but was surprised one day to discover the story she was working on wasn't so short any more. VALKYRIE RISING is Ingrid's first novel.

Ingrid's grandmother might actually be a Valkyrie; she's still waiting for her to come clean.
