Book Description

New Adult
Title: In the Band
Author: Jean Haus
Date Published: 10/19/2012

When family problems push Riley Middleton into giving up a percussion scholarship in another state and attending college from home, her friends push her to try out for a local rock band. Of course, Riley makes the band. She rules at the drums.

Riley soon finds out rock bands have a different dynamic than marching bands, especially when each of her male band mates has a major ego and is a major player. Two of them relentlessly flirt with her. The other—a dark, sexy rock god she can’t help being attracted to— is a total jerk and pushes her to quit. She becomes determined to ignore his rudeness and his hotness. Even if she was interested in jerks, a hook up would probably get her booted out of the ego-ridden band, and playing keeps her sane. Behind the drums, the world and its troubles evaporate.

If she wants to stay in the band, Riley needs to ignore the growing sparks between her and her band enemy. But as she gets to know the man behind the stage persona, ignoring him proves to be more difficult than flowing through a time sig shift.
*New Adult/Mature YA for language and sexual situations.

My Review

This was a really good read. I enjoyed reading the characters, and thought the Author did a very great job in describing their backgrounds, aspirations, especially with the main character, Riley. She's not only a Freshman in College, but is a new stellar drummer in a rock band, but she's dealing with her parents divorcing, and caring for her younger sister, while her Mom, is well, not really dealing with the divorce well. I felt for Riley, in that way, her parents going through a divorce and are going in separate directions, and feeling the anger, frustration, overwhelming sensation that so much is going on, was relatable, so I definitely can relate to Riley's feelings towards that situation, towards her parents. I liked that there was that sense of a solution to the situation, so that was nice.

I love that this story is New Adult, and it just fits so well in that category. Romeo was a definitely a nice catch, and would seem like the 'bad boy' but just you wait and see and read on, because you will definitely see a different side to this talented guitarist, and he was a great male lead, and definitely great for Riley, but you might not think so in the beginning, but...well you'll see. This was a fun read that I Recommend if you enjoy New Adult, Rock Bands, Realistic Situations, and a steaming romance.

My Rating: 4.4/5
I Say A Strong PG-13 Rating (Some Language & Sexual Situations)
