Blurb

In the fantasy world of Tallenmere, no one ever said love was easy...

Serenya Crowe may be a half-elf commoner, but she's no ordinary woman. With the ability to interpret dreams, and a birth defect that forces her to wear gloves, she’s endured small-town gossip and the cruelty of her husband, Sebastian, The Earl of Summerwind. All she's ever wanted is to live a quiet life and raise a family. When she meets the new stranger in town, her world and her heart, are turned upside down.

Wood-elf Jayden Ravenwing is an ex-secret agent who wants nothing more than to forget matters of the heart. He left the bustle of Leogard and his failed marriage to make a fresh start in Summerwind. He never planned to fall in love again, especially with the enchanting Serenya Crowe.

When a strange portal opens on the Crowe property at the edge of town, Jayden is thrown into an investigation, knowing that if he fails, Serenya and everyone in Summerwind may die.

Together, he and Serenya must overcome an ancient evil, and their own inner demons, to save Summerwind and find the love they've always dreamed of.

An Evening with the Cast of Serenya’s Song, #6: Cevil Delmarr

Setting: The Wasted Witch

Pardon my intrusion. I hope you were not saving that seat for someone else. Of course you weren’t. Your clothing is as out of place here as mine, and I can sense you are alone.

Please, do not go yet. Pardon my boldness, but the night is so young, and I mean you no harm. I am but a foreigner, unaccustomed to the ways of this province. Why not sit and enjoy your last bit of ale like the other customers here, draining every drop they can from their mugs before closing time?

No, I do not indulge in it myself. The effects of alcohol dull the senses, do they not? Perhaps that is why establishments such as this exist, so weary mortals can numb every disagreeable thought and feeling instead of facing them. Tell me, is that why you sit here or is it something else?

You’re curious about the clientele! Of course, same as myself. I like to watch people. Like Mr. Barnaby over there. A fine proprietor, yet ignorant of many things, especially where his stepdaughter is concerned.

Oh yes, I know the Barnabys very well. Serenya Barnaby married the Earl of Summerwind at the age of twenty-one. A mere child for one of her kind. I’d say she was as ignorant as her stepfather, but that would be underestimating her, would it not? She wasn’t completely blind to the Earl’s past. Even knowing that, she married him to save her father’s dream—this very tavern. Poor Mr. Barnaby, so much in debt he was back then, and now his little girl is paying for it.

Yet he doesn’t know the extent of her burden. No one here does. But, I am aware of her pale skin, gloved hands, and a little-known gift of dream interpretation. She is not an ordinary daughter of a tavern-owner.

Now, fancy the handsome wood-elf there—Mr. Jayden Ravenwing. He leads a double life. Artist and musician to the public, something else entirely in private. Yet, his heartache is so palpable. Can you not feel it? One could only hope he would learn from the past and not repeat the same mistakes, but I fear his habits will be his undoing yet again.

My name? Why, I have been known by many names, none of them even close to the original. And I shall not burden you with any such information tonight. All you need to know is right here. In my eyes.

Look deep. Yes, deeper still. You cannot look away. Summerwind is on the verge of something grand and terrible. Many lives hang in the balance, and some of the citizens you’ve met tonight will not survive. You have no further business here. Every ounce of ale you drank is like water. Your head is clear, your balance has returned, and the only thing you want to do now is run.

That’s right. Run for your horse, ride far away from here or you may regret the day you were even conceived.

Go! Hurry! And never look back…

Review

Oh wow, I really liked this story! Right from the beginning, I was enraptured in this creatively written fantasy world of Tallenmere. Everything was descriptive including the locations, and it felt like I was really there, so that's a plus for me, when I can easily visualize the setting. The story was intriguing; there's definitely a lot that happens from page one, and I felt each situation; conflict; good feeling moments, were presented where they should be, so I think everything flowed pretty well. This story had an edge of suspense as well, as when you think there is ease, something rapidly occurs, so there are little twists, that were incredibly written. The characters, all were described very well. I felt for Serenya, as she wanted someone to really love her for who she is, and she was not receiving that love from her husband, whom was an interesting character himself and watch out for him, as he has his own secrets that really shocked me, but in a good way, so look out for.... But back to Serenya; she has a lot on her plate: a loveless marriage, part of town gossip due to her birth defect that makes her wears gloves, and the fact that her Father is not her biological father. What really makes her feel that she has purpose is playing her piano, and Jaden Ravenwing, whom shares the same passion for music. I definitely liked him; he was a great, loving, and strong character, and seems like a perfect person for Serenya. You have to find out where their relationship leads, even though she is married, and learns, is confused by something about herself that she would never have imagined. Anyways, this was really a great book, and I am now a new fan of Mysti Parker. Her writing is incredible, and I hope you read this novel, and her others to see what I'm talking about. I recommend this story! :)
