*Guest Post*
(Again, thank you Mandy for writing a wonderful & Inspirational Post!!)

Starting out as a writer – 5 things you should know!

Mandy Baggot starring in from Maternity to Here!

Although I’d written lots of stories in my pre-teen years my writing journey really started after the birth of my first daughter. Having done the labor, I learnt how to change a diaper and wipe up vomit, but what no one had told me was although babies don’t do much sleeping at night time they do a great deal during the day! I found I had two hours during the day when I probably should have been cleaning the house, where I could escape to a fictional world and rediscover my love of writing. So, during my maternity leave from my job as a Wills and Probate paralegal, I wrote my first novel Excess All Areas. But even then, I didn’t really think about trying to get the novel published, it had just been my escape from diaper changing and ironing. So, my first tip is:-

1. Enjoy!
Writing should be all about the enjoyment of creating a world and characters to live in it. You don’t have to think about the bigger picture to begin with, just revel in getting words down on the page.

Then, two years after I’d written my first novel, Youwriteon.com in association with the Arts Council of England was offering to publish novels for free. It seemed to good a chance to turn down. So, tip number two is:-

2. Take every opportunity
Try different avenues for your writing. Perhaps enter a short story into a competition or try writing for a magazine. No one says you have to start off with a 100,000 tome.

Excess All Areas was published, I had my second daughter and wrote my next novel, Breaking the Ice. This time I was brave enough to send it off to some agents/publishers. Therefore tip number three is:-

3. Don’t be afraid of rejection
The likelihood is you will receive rejections from agents and publishers. But, don’t let the idea of rejection put you off from submitting in the first place. Unless they have been extremely lucky, most novelists have received rejections in their writing lives. I’ve had loads! Some people keep them to look back on when they receive their acceptances, I rip mine into little bits and feed them to the shredder.

Rejections received, I published Breaking the Ice myself, followed by Knowing Me Knowing You and then, Strings Attached. By this time I had lots of friends and contacts in social media, had joined writer/reader group Loveahappyending.com and readers were enjoying my work. Tip four is:-

4. Get social media savvy!
Make time for Twitter and Facebook. They are both great places to join groups and connect with likeminded people. Share ideas and inspiration about writing, offer help, support your friends and communities. Writing doesn’t have to be a reclusive occupation – we might be on our own a lot of the time but we’re never alone.

And then it happened! US publishing house Sapphire Star Publishing signed my fifth novel, Taking Charge. Making tip number 5:-

5. Never give up on a passion
If you really want to make writing your profession then never give up. If you have the passion, the enthusiasm, the drive and determination - anything is possible!

Book Description

Review

Wow, this was a wonderful read!

The story itself was pretty intriguing. Going back to a place where there was hurt in the past can be absolutely tough, but Robyn is determined to do what she needs to do and that is to 'Take Charge' of her Father's business affairs, while he's in the hospital. She's in charge of a Restaurant Business and Hockey Team, yes a hockey team, and that is what occupies Robyn's time but...she manages to still have these new feelings for hockey player, Cole, who has another profession up his sleeve. Something just electrifies between them, ever since the moment they first met, and it's a Romance not to miss! Apart from this, there is a mysterious aspect, something or someone from the past that made Robyn run to England in the first place, when she was 15/16, comes back to Robyn, coincidentally, when she comes back home, but is this a good or bad thing? Well, you just have to read for yourself, and I promise it is very good!

The writing was just wonderful, there was a good pace and flow, and I will definitely read more novels from Mandy Baggot! I felt that all the characters were well developed, even the ones that do not have a good outcome in this story. Robyn was a great character, who did have unfortunate things happen to her as a young teen, through her adult life, and I thought they were described and written very well, and they seemed believable to me, and I love that in a story; not just the situations, but the character(s) as to me it is then seen as realistic and they may connect with readers that makes this reading experience even better, so that was a big plus for me. I definitely could understand and connect with Robyn through some of her heartbreaking moments. Cole, another major character, was...a delight to read, and I just thought that he was a good guy and really perfect for Robyn. He too has been in his own fair share of tragedies, but the way Baggot connects these two characters is just something, you have to read this story, really! :)

My Rating: 4.2/5

I say a Mild R Rating (Some Language & Sexual Situations)

What some have said about this novel:

"Lilly, the main character, was raw. It gave me shivers how much I could relate to her on a personal basis. Her character manages to put humour even when she's starting to kill herself. She has this lonely feel to her, and rather than feeling pity, I relate to her. I think, "I would do the same thing in her situation." ~Reading with a Broken Heart

"I was obsessed with finding out "the truth" from the second I started reading this book. I loved it. I had the pleasure of reading it before others....I am fortunate enough to call the author my friend, but friend or not, I am honest in my assessment of this book- it was amazing!" ~Jenn, goodreads review

Book Description
“Today is the day it is going to happen. I’m not melancholy or nervous. I just want to get it over with more than anything. Today is the day that I, Lilly Barnes, die.”

Lilly Barnes doesn't want to live anymore. She is prepared to leave her life, family, and more importantly, her best friend Buddy behind for good. But, why? What could be so horrible that it makes a young girl want to end her life? Find out in
The Truth about Lilly Barnes.

*Guest Post*

First of all, thank you Marissa for having me on your blog! I am in love with the idea of combining film and books on the same blog; I think the roles they both play in our lives are so interchangeable. :)

In my book, The Truth about Lilly Barnes, the main character is having a really hard time, and that is putting it lightly. Lilly really doesn’t want to live anymore and through background stories, therapy sessions and her opening up you find out why.  I hope that you will root for her as I did, I really think she’s worth it.

I thought in this guest post I would list my top 5 favorite films that deal with the subject of suicide.  Some are from different decades with varying outcomes. I hope you check out the ones you haven’t seen yet. :)

1.       According to Greta – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059925/ (Hilary Duff in what I think is her best work.)

2.       Girl, Interrupted –  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0172493/ (Super dark, but really, really good.)

3.       It’s Kind of a Funny Story – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804497/ (They managed to make the viewer laugh in tough circumstances.)

4.       The Virgin Suicides - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159097/ (Are you on Tumblr? This film is uber popular on there.)

5.       Heathers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097493/ (Some call this the original Mean Girls).

Thanks, again Marissa for having me!

Review
From the book description, I can already see and thought that this was most likely going to be an emotional, pulling type read. Even before I read the first page, I felt for Lilly...

This story starts out with Lilly, a 17 year old girl, who attempts to end her life, and does she actually go with it? Well, she ends up going to a facility, I suppose an institution, to get better, and Lilly will have a difficult time of opening up, telling her story, her truth on why she wanted to kill herself, but does she go through it? She has never opened up her raw feelings, a deep secret, to anyone, not even to her best friend, Buddy, whose a sweetheart, a friend you perhaps wish to have. And it does not help that she has a hectic family or can you even call it a family? She has a Father that abandoned her, a Mother that Lilly thinks does not care for her or perhaps anything, but her love of drinking, and Lilly has a Step Father that she tries to avoid as much as possible. Ultimately, can Lilly go through with this treatment as if she does get better and all, who will she go home to? Does she even have the strength anymore to fight an internal battle within herself? Well, you will have to read for yourself and find out...

I think Lilly's situation, as I was reading the story, was just heart tugging and there were some personal relatable traits I found I had with Lilly. As I have mentioned before, I do in ways like to connect with the characters, and here and there, throughout the story, there were some things I felt I connected with Lilly. To me, this was a really good story, and one I found myself I could not put down. This is Lilly's journey to her ultimate truth, on wanting to take her life. I found and know that the issue of opening up is difficult, something hard to handle. That keeping something inside of you is the best thing, but it's hurting you even more, and for Lilly, it's best for her to open up, to open up her soul, to tell her full story on why she wanted to do something unchangeable.

At some point in the story, there's a situation revealed that made me say out loud, 'Oh Snap!', very true by the way. I guess it's something that I was not expecting, I mean it could have been a possibility, but as it is being explained, it was just sorta surprising! The situation is a truth that is hard to even write, but it's something or some things that can never be taken back, and again I felt for Lilly.

I liked that there were two POVs, Lilly's primarily, but glad Buddy's voice was read; he was a great developed character, and saw how he and Lilly just have this great friendship that can never be broken when it could have been. There was a good pace; really nice writing, that had a great flow. I will definitely be reading more of this Author's work in the future. Ultimately, this is a story that I feel must be read as you will find great and important messages :)

My Rating: 4.4/5
I say a little bit of a stronger PG-13 Rating

Madly Series (1-3) By: M. Leighton *Series Review & Giveaway*

Hello everyone! I just want to thank ATOMR Tours and M. Leighton for letting me participate in this tour and for providing review copies. You will see a Series Review and a wonderful Giveaway, so check it out and thanks for stopping by! :)

Book Description: Madly (#1)
(Via Goodreads)
Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madly has loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?

This novelette introduces you to Madly and prepares you for the quest of a lifetime.

Review
This is a short story (novelette) but it is filled with so much story, and by the end, you will know so much about Madly, her role as a Princess; her betrothed who is actually sorta like a brother to her (uh oh); a possible crush that is not her betrothed (double ohs), whose a sentinel that can be seen as someone forbidden to even crush on. In addition, this is an introduction to the characters; we understand what they are, and how they connect to the human world. We read about a huge problem that only Madly could really fix, and boy it's not easy! This already seems like a very interesting concept filled with different types of beings: Merpeople, Sentinels, Seers...oh my! I have to say, that I have not read many stories with Mermaids, menfolk characters, but this was pretty cool! We are also given a glimpse of what the next story might be about, and it for sure sounds goood! This is my first time reading M. Leighton's work and I'm excited to be reading more!

My Rating: 4.3/5

**Right Now this Novelette, Madly, is Free on Amazon!**

Book Description: Madly & Wolfhardt (#2)
(Via Goodreads)
Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

The first spirit to arrive is that of Ulrich Wolfhardt, a man that was once obsessed with wolves and a young maiden he would follow through the woods. After a bite from a wolf, Wolfhardt’s obsession with the girl became an unnatural hunger and the young maiden’s grandmother cursed him with a fate worse than death. And now he’s back…with a vengeance and a bite that can infect others as well.

Madly must learn the identity of Wolfhardt’s descendant and stop him before he kills again and spreads his curse across the earth. But the only person strong enough to help Madly is Jackson, the Sentinel who vowed to protect her and the one person capable of breaking her heart. Can Madly resist forbidden love long enough to save the world from Wolfhardt? Or will she have to sacrifice her heart and her destiny to save the ones she loves?

Review
I just want to say that this cover, and all the others are absolutely beau-ti-ful! Stunning! The story too has the same effect! Here, there is a creative storyline, very creative! Madly's feelings were written and described very well; it's just so well detailed! I gotta start with Jackson ooo yeah! He is wow a great leading male character. He's wonderfully written, and at first you might see him as tight lipped, perhaps moody? But as you read, you will see a great guy that ultimately just wants to keep Madly safe and maybe will even show something more? Anyways, he was a believable character to me, and his scenes with Madly were...awesome, just want I wanted to read, and let's just say I wish I was Madly in some of them :) The thing though, is that they could never be together (boo!) because yeah she is a Princess in the Kingdom of Atlas, under the sea. Jackson is her sentinel, her protector, as she is on her mission to try and save her parents, her family, and Atlas, her home. In this story she has to find out who is the descendant of a villain from a very recognizable fairy tale we all know. This is a story that I couldn't put down and hope you read it!

My Rating: 4.5/5
I say a little strong PG-13 Rating

Book Description: Madly & The Jackal (#3)
(Via Goodreads)
How deep does love run? Deeper than the ocean? Deeper than memory? Deeper than magic?

Following their plan to save Atlas, Madly and Jackson return the spirit of Wolfhardt to his prison beneath the sea. But even the best laid plans couldn’t account for the surprises they find. This time, Lore aren’t their only challenges.

Madly is special in ways no one could have guessed and dark forces seek to control her. They want her power, but first they must weaken her. They need her beaten. Vulnerable. Near death. And alone. But that task isn’t an easy one with Jackson at her side. The strongest of their kind, the only way to separate Jackson from Madly is to destroy his love for her, to erase it from his mind. And his heart.

Is it possible to steal Jackson’s love from Madly? Or is their love the only truly unbreakable thing?

Review
Wow, this was another suspenseful story in this magical, just fantastic series! I really don't want to give too much, because if you have not read book 1 or book 2,  well you have to catch up to read this truly amazing story! I absolutely loved it! We finally get a glimpse into the underwater Kingdom, Atlas. With the descriptions provided, you get amazing visualizations on what this place could be like. We also get some glimpses on a romance that just seems to be meant to be, and how the scenes were written, were just beautiful and just enough. There was a major twist in this story that then questions something so powerful...can it be undone? Towards the end, there is a little hint that there is going to be a...4th Book!! Yes! Sounds good to me, as I can imagine that there is more to this series, and I'm ready for it!

My Rating: 4.7/5
I say a Strong PG-13 Rating! (Some Intimate Scenes...)

Author Bio
(Via Goodreads)
I was born and raised in the United States, and I’ve lived in several of the fabulous fifty. Though I currently live in the deep South, I spent much of my childhood up North and hope to return there one day. A few other things about me: I believe that sometimes you have to look really, REALLY hard to find the good in people, but it's there. I believe that I'm shrinking (I swear five years ago I was two inches taller). I believe my husband is quite possibly one of the most amazing men in the entire world (I can't be sure because I haven't met all of them). I believe coffee and chocolate, when combined, could be the basis for world peace. I believe that Jesus rocks and communism doesn’t. I believe that white makes me look fat and black collects lint. I believe summer's too hot, winter's too cold and fall was made for football. I like dogs better than cats and the first movie in a trilogy is invariably the best. But most of all, I believe that love conquers all.
