Altered (The Academy #1) By: Aubrey Coletti *Book Excerpt & Giveaways*

*Click The Tour Banner To See The Tour Schedule!*

Book Description

When Toni, Joseph and Charlie arrive at their new boarding school, they are glad to leave their families - and respective problems - behind. Isolated as boarders, they meet a handsome senior with a personality like iced snake's blood, teachers with a penchant for physical punishment, and four other outcasts who reveal that their being brought to the Academy wasn't random at all. When the arrivals discover that their new school is engaged in "behavior modification" through electric shocks, isolation, restraints, and an ever-evolving set of methods to "fix" them, they declare war on their Academy. During their campaign of sabotage, they fight, hate, scorn, love, and begin to uncover the reasons why they were brought to the school. But as their war against the school escalates beyond their control, will they become the very things the Academy believes they are: dangerous, delinquent - and mad?

Book Excerpt #1

CHAPTER FIVE: HOLE

“So c’mon,” [Ann] coaxed. “Tell me. Trust me, there’s nothing you could say that would make me like you any — well ...”
“Any less than you already do?” Joseph smiled crookedly at her.
            “Well, yeah,” she responded sheepishly.
Joseph swallowed. Nobody he’d told had ever believed him. If he didn’t believe himself, why should she? What was to say she wouldn’t turn and blame it all on him?
But then ... he could blame this one on her too, if she did that.
He decided to tell her half the truth. “I kinda, used to ... start fires,” Joseph said, glancing over at her then away. He couldn’t do it if he was looking at her. “It was — I’d just always liked fires ... I can’t really explain it, they just — fascinate me. They’re beautiful and they hurt but we need ‘em to survive ... whatever, one day I was pissed and angry and didn’t know what to do and I fuckin’ found a match and lit a piece of grass outside and it — I don’t know ...” He knew he should stop, but he had never spoken of it, and now the words just came out. “It was beautiful. I couldn’t stop watchin’ it, and I felt like I got what a fire was and how it worked ...” Joseph swallowed.
“But I just knew it was wrong, and tried to stop but it seemed like — like ... I’d be pissed and angry and all of a sudden I’d have the lighter in my hand and then it just started happenin’ more and more. I’d be relieved at first, but then when it started happenin’ too much ... But I never killed no one, not one person, and sometimes the fires would just —”
            “Just what?” Ann pressed.
“Just happen.” Joseph looked at her expression. “I would have lighter, or a match — or even just be near a spark and I’d get angry and ... the fire would go off. Or I’d be near one and it would go higher, burn hotter and — ’
            I’m gonna ... stop talkin’.
Joseph turned away, cheeks burning. Fuckin’ idiot, now she’s gonna go and te—
“I once stole my parent’s car and almost drove over a cliff on purpose,” Ann said rapidly, then realized what she’d said and bit her tongue. “Ow!”
“You — when?” Joseph asked, folding his arms over his knees, half covering his face so his words were muffled and all she could see were his eyes.
“A year ago,” Ann confessed. “I just ... there was some stuff and ... I stole the car one night after I’d been drinking, and just cranked it as hard as I could. I had only driven a little before and it was such a rush. I was speeding so fast and I just felt — wild, like ... free? Ya know?”
“I know,” Joseph said, still just his eyes visible. “What happened next?”
“I hydroplaned, you know, drove on water? Then I spun and hit the side of the road, and the car half went over — that’s how they found me.”
Still laughing, she remembered, but didn’t say so.
Joseph just stared at her. Ann didn’t like the nervous, jittery feeling she got in the pit of her stomach when he did that, so she decided to shrug it off. “Whatever, I’m a what’cha call it ... an adrenaline junkie, I think that was what my Mom said. I guess that’s why I did it. Or ... I don’t know.”
            I don’t know why I do half the things I do. I’m stupid. There — that’s a reason.
“It’s just ... I wanted that feeling you get when you’re doing something wrong but exciting, like when you’re sneaking out at night or jumping off something just high enough to make it dangerous and you get that feeling through your whole body ... after it’s done and you fall on your ass you realize you’re an idiot, but while you’re doing it you just feel —”
“Powerful,” Joseph finished her sentence with her. Ann gave a half smile. “Yeah.”

Know Me Better *1*

Know Me Better is a weekly meme hosted by Kathy @ I Am A Reader, Not A Writer. Each week she will pick 5 questions off of her author interview lists to answer. She invites you to share your answers to these questions as well.

*This is my first time participating in this meme, and it seems like a fun one, so I also look forward to read everyone else's answers :)

This Weeks's Q's

- Top 5 songs on your playlist?
- How much time do you spend reading each week?

- What is the last thing you Googled?
- Favorite places to travel?
- What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day?

- Top 5 songs on your playlist?

I love love music and have way too many songs I'm listening to right now, but hmm here's 5 anyway with the music video :)

1. "Anything Could Happen" by: Ellie Goulding (Love this artist!)

2. "Home" by: Phillip Phillips (Still my favorite since American Idol)

3. "Locked Out Of Heaven" by: Bruno Mars (Love him!)

4. "Ho Hey" by: The Lumineers (Such a great folksy band)

5. "It's Time" by: Image Dragons (Fantastic song!)

- How much time do you spend reading each week?

Hmm well, I have been on break for a while now, and have been reading as much as I can, because on Monday I start my new semester of college courses,  so I'm not sure how much I will read each week, it's definitely going to vary.

- What is the last thing you Googled?

I actually googled my College Book Store, to check out what books I'm going to need to purchase either online, or on Monday.

- Favorite places to travel?

Hmm, I wish I can write what places I would love to travel, because there is a lot...but... I went to Hawaii with some family a while back; we went to Maui, and it was just beautiful there :)

- What is your favorite way to spend a rainy day?
I love it when it Rains, seriously, maybe because my birthday is in December, and it always rains on that day, I don't know but I love to usually watch movies, go downtown to the theater, read of course, write, and more :)

Now, what about you?

Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy #1) By: Karina Halle *Review*

Book Description Via Goodreads

Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents' latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

**The Artists Trilogy is a dark and sexy contemporary ride about three flawed individuals caught in a world where it's so easy to justify the bad things we do. This is a pure adult read (Not YA or NA).**

About The Author
(From The Author's Website)

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find her self and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found her self in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography has appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNo mad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in down town Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand.
Darkhouse is her first novel and the first one in the Experiment in Terror Series. Things only get better from here on in.

My Review (18+)

Whoa! I just finished reading, Sins & Needles, and geez I have to write first, that with how things ended in this first book, ahhh I need to read Book 2, just...OMG I need to know what happens next now! :)

Ok, now that I wrote that... I can now say that this was indeed an awesome story that just intrigued me, from the first chapter; really it did. This to me, seems so original, and I love that in stories, as originality will keep me reading. Sins & Needles is one flowing story that has dark twists, grifters, a mega hot tattoo artist with those nerdy but cute glasses, hot sex scenes, and more, much more, believe me.

What I liked so much, was that the Author just has a great writing style, and reading from her bio, she has a screenwriting degree, well I just say that it shows through her writing, because to me, I pictured a film throughout, and for me, I do that anyway with books I read, but this story just had writing that created vivid images, scenes, in my mind, and one day, this would be one cool film to watch, just saying :)

Character development was something that I loved here, as through Ellie's and Camden's background, the flashbacks of their once friendship that turned harsh, really helped me to understand what they went through, and why they chose the life they led, that ultimately leads them to both meet when they are 26, back in the town where they first met and attended the same high school. Yeah, those flashbacks were really great, and the ones, briefly on Ellie, once from her childhood, and a few when she was with her first, I guess you would say, her first love, Javier. Again, those flashbacks and the current story, meshed well together. I grasped on why Ellie chose a life that was like her parents, the people that ultimately abandoned her. I got why Camden is in his own mess right now, and with people after him, and Javier after Ellie, they both  need each other, to leave their old lives and start new, and Camden knows the perfect place to do that.

I'm one that does not like to give out spoilers, usually, and I think if you enjoy a story with action, a possible second chance with someone, a really intense hot romance, and again, more, than I encourage you to read this first book in the trilogy, because it's just so darn good and Oh My, I really need to know what happens now, because - oh right, no spoilers...well you're just going to have to find out what happens then... :)

My Rating: 4.8/5

Definitely R-Rated (Language, Some Violent content & Strong Sexual Content)
I Recommend For Readers 18+

Feature & Follow *13*

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. The purpose is to meet people and gain more followers in the book blogging community.

Q: What is the last book that kept you up late into the night just to finish it?

The last one was...hmm...well actually just a week ago. Vain by: Fisher Amelie, took me a few days to read, and it did keep me up late in the night to finish, as it's just an addicting read, starting from chapter 1; I just had to know what happened, so anyway, that's my answer.

Click Here if you want to check out my Review! I was a part of the Author's Blog Tour, so there you'll Read Chapter 1, see the Book Trailer, and the Kindle Giveaway that's happening, so just saying, if you want to read more about it, check out that page.

I just really recommend this novel; it was a very good New Adult/Contemporary Romance read :)

Book Description

Release date: January 29, 2013
Publisher: HarperTeen

Bonnie and Clyde meets IF I STAY in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.

They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.

Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger....

When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.

Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love...and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending. Described as “beautiful, heartbreaking, and exhilarating” by Kody Keplinger, author of The DUFF, Nobody But Us will prove irresistible to fans of Nina Lacour, Jenny Han, and Sara Zarr.

Book Excerpt
(My Choice)

From Zoe's POV

"Sometimes my body wins, and I doze. I dream about lying next to Will in ways we never have before, feeling the heat of embarrassment mixed with nervous longing as I sleep; but other times my brain wins and I wake drowsily and ignore the pounding in my head to play with the fairy song of my mom's chimes or to smile at Will and put my fingers on his cheek. He's handsome to me, in his rough way. I've always thought he was handsome, since the day he transferred to the home and, later, to my school."
