Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy #1) By: Karina Halle *Review*

Book Description Via Goodreads

Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents' latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

**The Artists Trilogy is a dark and sexy contemporary ride about three flawed individuals caught in a world where it's so easy to justify the bad things we do. This is a pure adult read (Not YA or NA).**

About The Author
(From The Author's Website)

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find her self and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found her self in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography has appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNo mad Travel Guides. She currently splits her time between her apartment in down town Vancouver and her sailboat, where a book and a bottle of wine are always at hand.
Darkhouse is her first novel and the first one in the Experiment in Terror Series. Things only get better from here on in.

My Review (18+)

Whoa! I just finished reading, Sins & Needles, and geez I have to write first, that with how things ended in this first book, ahhh I need to read Book 2, just...OMG I need to know what happens next now! :)

Ok, now that I wrote that... I can now say that this was indeed an awesome story that just intrigued me, from the first chapter; really it did. This to me, seems so original, and I love that in stories, as originality will keep me reading. Sins & Needles is one flowing story that has dark twists, grifters, a mega hot tattoo artist with those nerdy but cute glasses, hot sex scenes, and more, much more, believe me.

What I liked so much, was that the Author just has a great writing style, and reading from her bio, she has a screenwriting degree, well I just say that it shows through her writing, because to me, I pictured a film throughout, and for me, I do that anyway with books I read, but this story just had writing that created vivid images, scenes, in my mind, and one day, this would be one cool film to watch, just saying :)

Character development was something that I loved here, as through Ellie's and Camden's background, the flashbacks of their once friendship that turned harsh, really helped me to understand what they went through, and why they chose the life they led, that ultimately leads them to both meet when they are 26, back in the town where they first met and attended the same high school. Yeah, those flashbacks were really great, and the ones, briefly on Ellie, once from her childhood, and a few when she was with her first, I guess you would say, her first love, Javier. Again, those flashbacks and the current story, meshed well together. I grasped on why Ellie chose a life that was like her parents, the people that ultimately abandoned her. I got why Camden is in his own mess right now, and with people after him, and Javier after Ellie, they both  need each other, to leave their old lives and start new, and Camden knows the perfect place to do that.

I'm one that does not like to give out spoilers, usually, and I think if you enjoy a story with action, a possible second chance with someone, a really intense hot romance, and again, more, than I encourage you to read this first book in the trilogy, because it's just so darn good and Oh My, I really need to know what happens now, because - oh right, no spoilers...well you're just going to have to find out what happens then... :)

My Rating: 4.8/5

Definitely R-Rated (Language, Some Violent content & Strong Sexual Content)
I Recommend For Readers 18+
