My Interview With Nancy

Marissa, let me start by saying a BIG FAT thank you for hosting a stop on the Blood Debt Tour!!  I’ve stalked you for a long time and I was thrilled when I saw you had volunteered for the tour!!

What inspired you to write a character like Camille?

I have lots of girl friends and I’ve noticed traits they all have in common is their strength and perseverance.  I’ve always been drawn to women who, regardless of what life throws their way, come out swinging.  None have ever allowed life’s circumstances to make them victims or to outwardly appear helpless.  They all share their lives with their husbands, but no one runs their lives for them.

I think most authors write about what we know.  Because the women I spend most of my free time with are strong independent women, it only made sense that Camille’s character would have many of the same attributes as the women around me who I admire.  Camille is smart, witty, loyal, brave and refuses to let others, even those with good intensions, run her life or force their value system on her.

In the first chapter of Blood Debt, Camille loses her mother to cancer.  Her mother had been the most important person in her life and it would be easy to feel sorry for herself or cascade into a depression after losing her – she doesn’t.

Camille picks up the pieces, seeks a father she never knew and finds a whole family ready to welcome her into the fold.  She’s smart enough to see that everyone is a little too accepting, a little too perfect, and she questions nearly everything.  She’s introduced into a whole new world full of wealth, strong family connections and rules.  Many of rules run contrary to the upbringing she had with her mother.

Blood Debt, at its core is a love story.  The love story is tied up in a modern take on Greek Mythology, but Camille’s character is someone I think we can all relate to.  She could easily be your sister, cousin, aunt or friend.  Despite Camille’s strength, she is genuinely sweet protagonist and it’s difficult not to feel for her when her new life starts throwing her some wicked curve balls.

Camille is a character that most of us can see at least a small part of ourselves in, or at least the traits we’d all like to have.

What is a favorite tradition of yours during the Holidays?

I grew up in Iowa and about twenty years ago, I escaped!  Or at least, I escaped the cold winters.  My family and I still go back in the summer time to visit relatives.  The traditional family Christmas with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc still happen, but they happen in Iowa so we have to phone into those get-togethers.  We have several friends who are in the same boat so after opening Christmas presents we all meet at someone’s house for a pot-luck Christmas and play board games and watch football.

Favorite Holiday films?

My all-time favorite is A Christmas Story – I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen it and it still makes me laugh every year.  My husband and I bought a bb gun for our son a couple Christmas’s ago and I’m happy to report he still has both his eyes!  It’s a Wonderful Life is also one I look for each year.

Her whole life, it had just been the two of them. Before her mother’s last breath, she gave Camille the information she had craved her entire life: the identity of her father. But nothing comes without a price, as she discovers when her family claims a legendary heritage tracing back to a Centaur touched by Zeus.

As she learns the secrets of her Centaur bloodline, she is drawn into a forbidden love with Drake. Her family acknowledges her life may be the blood debt required to pay for her mother’s transgressions. Her only chance is to seek a piece of her mother’s past that will win her freedom and the life she desperately desires.

About The Author
Nancy was born in Sioux City Iowa, left the cold of the Midwest in 1991 and only returns to see family in the summer time. She spent ten years traveling the world as a US Marine and settled in rural SC with her husband and two children.

She enjoys reading all types of Paranormal and Young Adult literature – so long as there is a love story.  She loves Starbucks’ White Mocha Latte and Mountain Dew, (but not together). She has a lead foot so she sets cruise control when she drives, even in 25 MPH zones.   Nancy almost never wins when she plays Angry Birds, but keeps her 8 year old close, so he can clear the hard levels for her.  She grew up on a farm and is opposed to eating fresh chicken (not opposed to meat - just opposed to any meat that was alive a few hours before lunch).  Nancy has written five Young Adult / New Adult novels and can be found nightly on Facebook and Twitter.

  3. A love story with a modern take on Greek Mythology? Sounds like a really good read.
